The Battle of Vimy Ridge was part of the Battle of Arras and took place from April 9 -12, 1917. It is often called Canada's most celebrated military victory and has become a symbol of the birth of our national awareness and pride. It was the first time that Canadians fought together as a single assaulting force.

The Battle was won in the end, but there was great cost. 3,598 soldiers lost their lives on Vimy Ridge and another 7,000 were injured.
