A Wren at War is an online display focusing on those who served in signals with the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) commonly known as Wrens.
The Navy began recruiting women in 1942 to replace sailors on shore bases, freeing more men for service at sea. They took on a variety of activities including signalling at listening bases throughout the country.
This display profiles Wren Isabel May McDonald, who worked as a wireless telegrapher from 1944-1945 at a secret listening base in Gordon Head, BC.
