Between August 15 and August 25, 1917, The Canadian Corps fought the German 6th Army at Hill 70, located on the outskirts of Lens in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. The objectives were to inflict casualties and draw troops awayfrom the 3rd Battle of Ypres. The Canadians were only partially successful in their objective; they tied up local divisions but did not draw troops from other areas. The battle was costly, with numerous casualties on both sides.
