Assorted Photos of Latiremont

The Gros Ouvrage de Latiremont consists of 8 blocs. It is located in the Bois de Latiremont. Easiest access would appear to be off D18a just out of Beuville (south of Fermont) towards Doncourt-les-Longuyon. Turn on the road which runs north and west of Doncourt Cites, along the woods, then road turns back east - look for casemates to the left. Currently abandoned. The Gros Ouvrage of Latiremont is located 10km to the East of Longuyon, 6km South of Longwy and 1km North of Doncourt. The Ouvrage has the standard entrances and both entrances can be viewed at the same time due to the layout of the fort. The access to the main gallery is by lift in the munitions entrance and by staircase in the men's entrance. The fort has 6 blocks - 3 artillery and 3 infantry. It was commanded by Cdt Pophillat, with a compliment of 580 men and 21 officers.

The fort is securely locked but can be opened by prior arrangement. The fort has had a large amount of equipment removed and reused by local associations. The forts workshop is in excellent condition, still containing a lathe, pillar drill and many other items. The fort has suffered over the years with a large amount of water ingress and the floors now have a large build-up of mineral deposits on them, in many places.

The third fort of the sector Crusnes is the fort of Latiremont (C3) with two blocks with three 75 mm canons each. The fort has 6 blocs and 2 entrances. Underground you will find the barracks for 600 men and the power plant with 4 SGCM 225 hp engines. During the war this fort has supported Fermont during the German attacks.
