War Bunkers in the Local Area - Assorted Sources

War Bunkers in the Local Area

On a personal note, I wouldn't even want to try and guess how many bunkers remained in the local area. Imagine, if you will, the station as "ground zero" and draw a circle with a radius of 15 miles (24 Km) from the location of the old "Snack Bar". It is doubtful that anyone could come up with an accurate number as to how many bunkers were in existence - especially when 1 Wing became operational at Marville in the spring of 1955. It is safe to assume that some of these remains were demolished with the passing of time, but I do not recall any particular massive "clean-up campaign" during my tour in France (1960-1965).
