F/O’s Doucet and Dubois visit Gap Fillers at Formosa and Tobermory. Mr. F Goodyear of WEADES in for Mode II testing.

5 Dec 62

Mode II tests started with Detroit ADS. RCAF Station Edgar was invited to curl with the Barrie Chamber of Commerce in Barrie. They had two rinks. Station Edgar won.

6 Dec 62

W/C H Hebb SORS/ADC visited unit.

7 Dec 62

Mode II tests completed. Officer’s Mess Dinner.

10 Dec 62

Mr. Martineau, Bouroughs, in for inventory check, prior to AFTO-87 for FST-2.

11 Dec 62

Impossible to change shift at GATR due to heavy snowfall. Necessary to walk in until CE ploughed the road. Mr. Martineau left.

12 Dec 62

Conference to review and discuss draft of SAGE Facility Technical Orders. There were 12 representatives from WECO, USAF, AMC, ADC, and also site personnel. Chairman was F/L Reader, AMC HQ. W/C G Murray, CO designate of Gypsumville, started familiarization visit. Exercise Big Noise.

Technical Order Conference concluded.

14 Dec 62

G/C Gauthier from ATPC AFHQ visited unit. Primary interest personnel particularly retention of junior Tech/Tel Officers.

17 Dec 62

31 Radar Squadron now capable of fully operational Mode II to Detroit ADS.

19 Dec 62

ADCOM break-down at repeater site 0101 – excessive power bumps caused the APU to stop. Received authority to begin verification of Facility Order on SIF.

3 Jan 63

G/C Mussels, AFHQ/COC visited for familiarization with SAGE LRR and discussions.

4 Jan 63

Sgt. Deault leaves for Ramore.

7 Jan 63

W/C Brunger, F/O Kelly, Mr. D O’Neill, F/L R Ling, Mr. R Sheppard, Mr. TK Andrew, F/O L Nafe, F/O A Sager, F/O JV Kelly, arrived for signing AFTO-87 for FST-2 and GATR.

8 Jan 63

AFTO-87 for AN/FST-2 signed. Borough’s personnel all leave except for Mr. P Wallbridge, who will remain until Mr. W Bellafontaine arrives.

15 Jan 63

All GATR A/G/A channels off. A complete rack re-allocation was performed to standardize this GATR with the others. Mr. Bellafontaine took up his duties in the SAGE Annex.

16 Jan 63

All A/G/A back on the air by 1200 hours.

17 Jan 63

G/C KC Cameron, ADC/SCESO, visited the unit.

18 Jan 63

ADCHQ declared this unit the winner of the 1962 ADC Safe Driving Award, non flying unit category. To win this award the unit compiled 337,322 accident free miles, under the supervision of FS AG Goodwin NCO i/c MSE and Sgt. FJ Hughes Safety Supervisor.

21 Jan 63

Mr. AS Atkinson and Mr. RS Athey of Canadian Arsenals arrived to conduct trials of ULT-501 and associated equipment.

24 Jan 63

Mr. Charles A Cason, Rome Air Development Center arrived for tests of experimental equipment. Mr. Higson CAL accompanied him.

26 Jan 63

Mr. G Thompson DND IS arrived for tests.

27 Jan 63

Cpl. JR Lacasse Med "A" transferred to 3 Wing HQ.

28 Jan 63

Trial flight held for testing. Results were satisfactory. Mr. D Martin of CGE conducted course on use of 7182 magnetrons.

Sgt. D Hardy reported in to take over as NCO i/c GATR. W/C Dempster attended reception at opening of Horseshoe Valley Ski Lodge.

30 Jan 63

Flight trials continued. Used live jamming and results were satisfactory. S/L DA Reid to ADC for meeting on LRR and DMCC organization.

31 Jan 63

CAL party left for Toronto.

Mr. L Rowlandson, MITRE, arrived to perform preliminary tests on impulse generator. Also attending were:

They took part in a conference and comparison tests of the impulse generator and ULT/501 Jammer built by CAL. The conference was in the morning and tests were conducted in the afternoon.

Mr. C Smith, Varion Ltd. Arrived. He conducted tests of magnetrons. No conclusive results other than the assumption that the HFR are not geared for high frequencies.

45 employees of Federal Pacific Electric given briefing and tour of LRR.

Cpl. WF Judge Med "A" transferred in from 3 Wing HQ. He was on special leave from 31 Jan 63 to 13 Feb 63.

Mr. N Klukay arrived for installation of magnetic drums in both channels of the AN/FST-2B. Mr. Deacon and Mr. McKinnon of Bell Telephone in for discussions.

Mr. Long, Mr. Swetman, NE Company arrived for installation of solid state power supply in Channel A of FPS-508. Mr. Jalbuleh and Mr. Berryman of AMCHQ in to discuss NE603 maintenance.

C&E Mechanical maintenance course on FPS-507 started.

Progress Club of Toronto visited Station Edgar for tour and briefing.

ACE modification to AN/FST-2 started.

7 Mar 63

One FST-2 channel now out of service to allow ACE modification to be done. HF-1 off the air due to vertical linearity failure on the OA-929. Could not use OA-270 because FST-2B channel down for ACE modification.

18 Mar 63

Two S/L, 8 F/L and 5 F/O in for CTSO, SAGE course. Second C&E Mechanical course started.

Channel A and Channel B of FST-2 are now both back in service having both had the ACE modification completed.

Solid state power supply burned out. High voltage selector switch started, causing mass diode disintegration. Six X-80’s are QA’d. UPX-14 arrived. F/O Ellis takes over from F/O Doucet as SElectO. F/L Reed Station Uplands visited Station Edgar to discuss First Aid Course.

X-80’s arrived. Channel A back on the air. Mr. Swetman Northern Electric Company Belleville arrived to examine damage. AMC WO #524-623 – Conversion of the existing Air Conditioning Units in the SAGE Annex in accordance with CE183 #281-28 and plans, Drawing CEU S-11-3002-1 and Addendum #7 to Specification for Construction of Standard SAGE Annex Stage 1AFHQ SD #5205. Work completed by #1 CEU RCAF Station Calgary Alta. Major Edwards visited Station MIR from RESURG, Ontario Medical Region Oakville, Ont.
